This year we are proud to announce the recipients of the End-of-Year awards that recognize the accomplishments of MFGRC member-owned dogs in 2007. To be eligible, the dog must be owned and reside with the MFGRC member, and that member must have attended at least two club meetings and volunteered for a club function during the year.
Points for the awards were calculated only on AKC and GRCA titles earned

OBEDIENCE & RALLY DOG OF THE YEAR

(2nd this year) OTCH Magik Softwind Foreverin Fun RA, UDX3, GRCA Obedience Hall of Fame "Dylan" Sire : Ch. Sunbeams Worth the Wait
Dam : Allegro's Magik Twosome
Owners: Joyce and Kate Swegle and Ann Rowe
Breeder: Ann Rowe
Handler: Joyce Swegle

Dylan, in very limited showing this year, came through once again , earning High in Trial, High Combined's and enough UDX legs to earn his UDX4. Dylan has always been a joy to own and is always fun to train and show. But the work it takes to keep an OTCH dog at the top of his game, is time consuming, and it became too much for his mom, with younger dogs to also work with. We decided to change our focus, and go back and earn those fun Rally titles. Dylly, started to play in Rally, when he was an 8-week old puppy. We showed in non regular Rally classes back before Rally ever became a titling class. Way back when Dylan was just starting out in Novice obedience. And, now, we go back to the beginning, and retrain and clean up those old Rally moves. Dylan earned his Rally Novice and Rally Advanced in quick succession , all with 100's, and 5 First places, and 1 Second place. And he had lots of fun doing it! In 2008, we will step aside in active Obedience competition, though we may occasionally, pop in, just for some added fun! And we will continue in Rally, hopefully earning the Rally Excellent title and possibly moving ahead to the RAE. We have also just started to train in Tracking. This sport is something totally foreign to Dylan- he gets to be the one in charge- and Mom follows his lead. Whatever we do, wherever we go, we will have fun, learning together and just having fun. The journey continues.....

CO-FIELD DOG OF THE YEAR
MISCHIEF'S NOTORIOUS WINDSOR (DEVLIN), JH, WC, CDX, RE, CGC
Sire: CH MY SKY WATCHER
Dam: MISCHIEF MAGIK UPTOWN GIRL, NA, NAJ
Owner: CONNIE ADAMS
Breeder: CAMILLE N. DOEHRING & DONALD A DOEHRING
Handler: CONNIE ADAMS
Tired of just watching everyone else having such a grand time running their dogs in field trials, I decided that it was high time for Devlin to get involved. Kathy Yates was my driving force in entering Devlin in the Jacksonville Retriever Club's Hunt Tests in February. I personally thought she had lost her mind as we only started our training, but figured "nothing ventured, nothing gained"! Devlin had trouble with his first attempt, but nailed his other four tests getting some pretty decent scores along the way. He earned his WC in one try. We are now training for the WCX and Senior Hunt Titles.. Devlin is a quick learner, a retrieving fool but more importantly a fun dog to work with.

CO-FIELD DOG OF THE YEAR
Bridgeton's Dancin' Fool RN SH WC
sire: Am-Can CH OTCH Highmark Mirasol Once A Knight VCD3 UDX3 TDX JH MX MXJ WC VCX OS SDHF
dam: OTCH MACH Bridgeton's I'm The Only One UDX5 RA MH OBHF ADHF
breeder:Nancy Clinchy
owner/handler: Mike Orloff & Pat Kopco
Zappa is without question, the happiest, funniest and most driven dog we've ever owned. Everything in his life is a game, and lots of fun for him. His parents are both OTCH dogs. His mother also has her MACH and Master Hunter - the only golden bitch in the country to hold those 3 titles. His father is in the Show Dog Hall Of Fame, took breed at the Golden Retriever National Specialty in 2001 and 2002, and is the only dog take breed at the National that has advanced titles in all other venues as well. Zappa earned his Junior Hunter title in 4 straight passes at the age of 15 months, and was doing Senior work soon thereafter. It was only his over-abundance of enthusiasm and desire to tell the judges and his handlers how the tests should be run that kept him from getting his Senior Hunter title sooner. He is also AKC pointed and has his HRC Hunting Retriever title. He is gorgeous and a great working dog who has a remarkable zest for life. He loves to hunt or swim in his pool or just hang out on the couch and watch bird hunting shows on tv, and has just started competing in agility.

AGILITY DOG OF THE YEAR
MACH2 Misty Ridge's Amber Rose CD OF
Owners: Jim and Diane Hamblin
Sire: CH Amberwood's Apocalypso CD JH
Dam: Twin Beau DJ Roxanna
Breeders: Cyntha and Ronald Resare
Handler: Jim Hamblin
Amber had a difficult puppy hood having to fulfill the hopes and expectations of a novice dog handler and new Agility addict. She protested my ineptitude as only a Golden could by woo-woo-wooing, getting the zooms, jumping on the judge, visiting the ring crew, and sometimes totally leaving the ring in search of more fun things to do. I, on the other hand, tried to change my voice to approximate the high pitch of my trainers who were so successful, hide behind the tunnel hoping the puppy would come looking for me and at the same time navigate the maze of jumps and obstacles required to gain the coveted Q. I learned to memorize the course, do a front cross, rear cross, RFP, handle at a distance, slow down, speed up and most of the things I was taught but no mater how hard I tried I still couldn't get the high pitch of my trainers. Eventually we came together as a team and we were able to Q, Double Q and even place quite frequently. She earned her MACH then her MACH2, qualified for entry into the GRCA ADHF, competed for 3 consecutive years at the AKC Agility National and now she has gained another honor being voted MFGRC Agility Dog of the Year for 2007.
We have a wall full of ribbons and a book full of pictures and I have a heart full of memories that will last forever as we pursue the MACH3.
Thanks Amber for the ride and MFGRC for the honor.

Thank you MFGRC for recognizing Fisher as the club's Versatility Dog of the Year. It is an honor that takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears! But also rewarded with great memories and a stronger partnership with an exceptional animal. During 2007, Fisher earned 8 Championship points, including a specialty major; one UDX leg; 3 RAE legs; and passed the WCX for the first time. He also qualified for the GRCA's VCX designation. Fisher enjoys and excels at everything we try; I'm very proud to have him at the end of the leash. We hope for continued success into 2008.

Deauxquest Oh What A Knight, CDX, VCD1 is my once in a life time dog. She wants to do it all and loves working with me. Tracking is one of the hardest areas of performance we have ever attempted and finding the glove that earned Frankie's TD was the most challenging and best title ever. Thank you Dee and John Thibodeaux for breeding Sony that produced such a wonderful girl! Photo by Pix N Pages.
